Fostering Innovation: The Role of EDC at BMS Institute of Technology
Introduction
In today’s fast-evolving economic landscape, entrepreneurship plays a pivotal role in driving innovation & societal progress. At BMS Institute of Technology, the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) is at the forefront of nurturing this spirit. The Cell is committed to equipping engineering students with the right mindset, skills, & guidance to turn their innovative ideas into successful real-world ventures. Through mentorship, hands-on projects, & industry collaboration, students are prepared to navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship with confidence.
EDC’s Vision and Purpose
EDC at BMS Institute of Technology was established to cultivate entrepreneurial qualities among budding professionals. Aligned with national initiatives such as “Make in India” and “Start-up India,” the Cell provides essential infrastructure, technical resources, & guidance to students interested in launching startups. A dynamic pool of sponsors—including banks, national entrepreneurship training agencies, and industry partners—also supports aspiring entrepreneurs.
Engaging Events and Initiatives
EDC keeps the entrepreneurial flame alive through a series of events and workshops designed to stimulate and educate students:
Ignite: The flagship event for the 2019–20 academic year, organized on 3rd October 2019. It featured a motivational talk and live Q&A with successful entrepreneurs to inspire students toward entrepreneurship.
Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp: Held in February 2020 across two batches, this program was sponsored by DST-NIMAT and EDII, Ahmedabad. Besides workshops, students enjoyed an industrial visit to Cognizant and a manufacturing unit in Bangalore, learning about cybersecurity and corporate work culture.
Tech Talk by Founders & Panel Discussion: Conducted during the annual technical fest Tech Transform on 5 November 2019, this event included talks by two successful tech entrepreneurs followed by a panel on “Digital Disruption,” moderated by the college Principal.
Conclusion
The Cell successfully closes the gap between academic theory and entrepreneurial reality through a combination of specialised events, professional mentoring, strategic partnerships, & experiential learning opportunities. By empowering students with vision, confidence, & strategic know-how, EDC is not only fostering a culture of innovation on BMS Institute of Technology’s campus but also contributing to India’s broader entrepreneurial growth.
